‘Seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you… Pray to the Lord for it’ Jeremiah 29:7
We put this accessible guide together during lockdown, when Christians were not allowed to meet together to pray in church buildings, as a way of seeking to bless their communities. Given everything that is happening, it surely remains relevant today! So as better weather and lighter evenings approaching, why not use it as a guide to connecting with and praying for the area where you live, and where you hope to see God’s Kingdom come!
During Jesus’ three years of ministry, He prayerfully walked the streets of Israel’s towns and cities, meeting people as He went, releasing abundance, identifying sinful behaviour and ministering healing to the broken. In Matthew 16:19, He said, ‘I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.’
Why is this important? Because we are Jesus’ body – and the way He extended His Kingdom then is the same way He will extend it now, through us, His hands and feet, continuing to do what He did then. He promised us in John 14:12: ‘I am telling you the truth: those who believe in me will do what I do—yes, they will do even greater things, because I am going to the Father.’
So what does it look like to ‘prayer walk’ your high street?
